Visions Awards

•Grenada School District stands out not only for its academic classes and sports; it also provides outstanding arts classes as well. One of these classes, Visions Showchoir, recently brought home a Grand Championship for the first time in the history of the group.

The group, under the direction of Jenni Winter and Kim Porter, meets each day during regular school hours as well as many after school hours. Students involved in the choir must audition for spots each year, and they put in many hours of practice. The ensemble has grown in size tremendously in the last few years, and now competes in the category "Large Group for Mixed Showchoir." Mixed refers to groups that have both male and female members.

At their most recent competition, Show Choir Masters, at Jackson Prep, the group raked in numerous awards. They brought home First Place in Large Group, Overall Outstanding Show Design, Outstanding Vocals, Outstanding Visuals, and were named Grand Champions of the competition. More competitions are scheduled for the group including February 2 at Jackson Academy, February 16 at West Jones, February 2

3 at Auburn, Alabama, and March 2 at Madison Central. The competition show depicts the life of King Henry VIII and the fate of his six wives. Entitled Killer King, the show puts a new twist on the story, and the infamous king succumbs to a fate far worse than what his "real life" Queens could have ever dreamed of. The cast of the show features Saavon Washington as King Henry the VIII, and Savannah Burnett, Presley Caldwell, Anna Hurd, Brianna Shaw, Hallie Staten, Hannah Wilbourn, and Caitlin Zangri in the roles of King Henry's wives. Soloists in the production are Presley Caldwell, Sterlin George, Jadon Hardwick, Kayla Herrington, Anna Hurd, Brianna Shaw, Avery Zangri, and Caitlin Zangri. Music performed in the show includes Live and Let Die, Back to Black, Thriller, Gravity, Sorry not Sorry, Aria, Lacrimosa, Who's Lovin' You, Moves Like Jaggar, Chunky, and Power.

Visions plans to perform its competition show Killer King as part of their annual spring show held in late April. Stay tuned for exact dates! Congratulations to this talented group of singers and dancers on their outstanding win. We wish you equal success at your future competitions!
