2017 GHS Valedictorian and Salutatorian
Grenada High School Seniors will grace the field of Charger Stadium tonight for the last time as they take that final walk during graduation. Scheduled for 7:00p.m., commencement is the culmination of many years of hard work and determination. Tears will be shed, laughter will ring out, and dreams will be realized as the graduates accept their diplomas and move that gold tassel that symbolizes the passage from child to young adult. Leading the graduates will be the 2016-2017 Grenada High School Valedictorian and Salutatorian. Ranking first and second, respectively, in their class, the 2017 Valedictorian is Anna Hayden Hayward, and the 2017 Salutatorian is Bradford James.
Anna Hayward is the daughter of Bob and Pam Hayward. She has been a member of the GHS Annual Staff since her sophomore year and worked as Editor during her junior and senior years. During her senior year she served as President of both the National Honor Society and the French Club. Anna also acted as Vice President of Excel Club and Secretary of the Key Club, and enjoyed an active role in the Anchor Club at GHS. She is a proud AP student and attended the Superintendent's Breakfast every year of her school career. During her senior year, Anna was voted "Most Intellectual" by her peers. She has received numerous academic awards throughout her high school tenure, including the distinction of being chosen 2017 GHS STAR Student. After graduation, Anna plans to attend the University of Mississippi where she has been accepted into the Early Entry Pharmacy program.
Bradford James is the son of Dan and Tange James of Gore Springs. He is the grandson of Tommy and Alma Gordon of Calhoun City, Raymona James of Gore Springs and the late Tootie James. Bradford is a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and is very active in the youth group. He was involved in numerous clubs throughout high school including Anchor Club, Excel Club, Key Club, Spanish Club, Academic Team and 4-H. He served as President-Elect of Anchor Club his junior year and President his senior year. He served as President of Excel Club and Vice President of Key Club his senior year. He also served on the student council and was voted "Most Likely to be President" his senior year. Bradford was inducted into the National Honor Society his junior year where he served as Vice President his senior year. He was named to the Grenada High School Hall of Fame his senior year. Bradford has attended the Superintendent's breakfast consecutively since 2nd grade. He has been a member of the Grenada Bands all four years of high school and has been a part of the high school drum line all four years as well. Bradford attended Boys' State at the end of his junior year where he ran for Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce. Bradford was named Youth of the Month by the Grenada Exchange Club and was also awarded the Pilot Club scholarship for the most service hours in the Anchor Club. Bradford plans to further his education at Holmes Community College and major in pre-dentistry. He will also serve as an ambassador at Holmes for the 2017-2018 school year. He plans to transfer to Ole Miss after graduation from HCC.
