i-Ready comes to Grenada School District

In order to ensure students are mastering standards necessary to reach academic goals, the Grenada School District has adopted the i-Ready system to help students reinforce basic skills in reading and math. The i-Ready program uses adaptive assessments to create individualized instruction paths for each student.  These assessments use advanced technology to provide a customized evaluation of every student and to track student growth and performance continuously over a student’s entire career.

Reports that the teachers can create from i-Ready’s Diagnostic detail each student’s abilities and areas of need. The information in these reports provides teachers with an action plan for individual and group instruction as well as the tools to deliver that instruction in any style learning environment.

With students being automatically placed into instruction customized to their abilities, online lessons provide a consistent best-practice lesson structure and build conceptual understanding, in addition to being engaging and fun for learners of all levels. This is especially beneficial for providing differentiated instruction and for identifying learning gaps spanning back multiple years, or for determining where students are ready for further challenge.  I-Ready also has “Ready Workbooks” that go along with the online lessons, are organized by grade level, and offer additional instructional strategies for teachers.

Since its adoption into the District, the response from students has been a positive one.  Students like the interactive aspect the program and the fact it’s on a computer.  Students are engaged and completing lessons every time they log on.  Every lesson the students complete moves them closer toward mastery of that concept.
Curriculum Associates, the creators of the i-Ready program, has conducted several case studies for schools, with third-party data analysis provided by the Educational Research Institute of America. Education pundit Tom Vander Ark of GettingSmart has praised the program for being more teacher-friendly than similar assessment products, citing its ease of use, deeper student data information, and clear link to useful content.  As of 2014, more than 250,000 students nationwide are using the i-Ready program.
