2012 Fall Activities

Teachers and administrators all breathed a sigh of relief (and exhaustion!) when Homecoming Week was over last Friday.  Wacky dress up days, Homecoming practices,  pep rallies, activities, and kids worn out from staying up too late take a toll on those older than 18.  We fondly remember our years in high school, but I don’t think there are many that would like to step back in time and repeat them!

Many activities took place last week, culminating with the big Homecoming game against the Winona Tigers.  Thursday night, Grenada Nissan fired up the Chargers with a bonfire and music by Dealer’s Choice, a local band.

On Friday, prior to the big game, the GHS cheerleaders hosted the annual outdoor pep rally.   The entire student body attended the event that featured crazy games, cheer performances, and competition for the spirit stick.  After the pep rally, the cheerleaders and Chip the Charger traveled to the Grenada Elementary School for face painting and fun with smallest Chargers.  The GHS Chargers came out on top in the battle with the Tigers scoring 42 points to the Tiger’s 24.

Rodnesha Leigh was named 2012 – 2013 GHS Homecoming Queen during pre-game activities on Friday evening.  Prior to the crowning ceremony, the Homecoming maids and their escorts paraded around the stadium in convertible sports cars, waving to the fans and showing off their beautiful gowns.  The GHS Charger band, the GHS ROTC, and the GHS Cheerleaders all took part in this annual event as well.   Congratulations to Rodnesha and all of the maids elected to the GHS Homecoming Court.

The Charger Olympics were held last week at Grenada High School.  Five teams, one from each class and a teacher team, competed for the title of Charger Olympic Champions.  The teacher team finally came out on top this year winning the gold horse shoe medals.  The Juniors claimed the silver medals, and the Seniors the bronze.  Sophomores were fourth place and Freshmen held on for fifth.  Team members included:
Grenada Middle School also celebrated Homecoming week with dress up daysand their very own pep rally on Tuesday.  GMS dress up days began on Tuesday and included Jersey Day, Twin Day, Crazy Hair Day, and T-shirt/Jersey Day.

The passing of Homecoming checks one of the major events off the calendar for the Grenada School District.  Many other important events take place each month.  Check out the Grenada School District website www.gsd.k12.ms.us for other activities and come support the  Grenada School District!
