2012 Beauty Review

Evening gowns, high heels, make-up, and beautiful girls -where can you find all of these accoutrements at once?  The Grenada High School Beauty Review, of course!

Fifty-one young ladies recently graced the stage of the Grenada High School Auditorium as they vied for the title of GHS Most Beautiful.  The contestants modeled evening wear and were judged in the categories of beauty, dress, and poise.  Four judges scored the young women, and their scores were totaled to determine the Top 15, the Top 5 Alternates, and GHS Most Beautiful.

After the last contestant left the stage, the guys got their chance to shine.  GHS Handsomes are nominated by the senior class, then the entire student body votes.  The nominee with the most votes is named GHS Most Handsome, and the next five highest scorers are named as a GHS Handsome.  During the pageant, the boys provided entertainment while modeling on stage.  Each year the Handsomes and the GHS Annual Staff write and choreograph special performances intended to invoke laughs.  The Handsomes’ mothers participated this year along with several other “helpers”.  Thanks to all of them for their part in our pageant!   This year’s Handsomes were Trey Bledsoe, Jarius Blunt, Michael Coker, Chris Holly, D.J. Hobbs, and the 2012 – 2013 GHS Most Handsome, Payne Horan. Congratulations to these young men!

After the Handsomes’ performances, 2011 – 2012 GHS Most Beautiful, Shelby Phelon walked the stage for the last time before crowning the new winner.  Special entertainment was also provided by Jarvis Benson, Cassidy Darbonne, Shane Harbin, and Beth Moore during breaks and tallying of scores.

After the scores were tallied, Mistress of Ceremonies Melinda Barnes announced the winners.

GHS Top 15 ( in no particular order):  Allyson Cummins, Courtney Ellet, Abby Ray Vance, Haley King, Hanna Brasher, Ariel Chavis, Erin Beck, Breanna Bess, Hannah Hood, Rachel Braswell, Landyn Hoover, Sydney Reid, Hannah Waters, Reagan Williams, and Savannah Griffin.

Top Five Alternates:
  • Fifth Alternate – Hannah Waters
  • Fourth Alternate – Hannah Brasher
  • Third Alternate – Abby Ray Vance
  • Second Alternate – Allyson Cummins
  • First Alternate – Breanna Bess

  • After the alternates were named, Landyn Hoover was crowned GHS 2012 – 2013 Most Beautiful.  Congratulations to all of the winners and to all of the contestants who participated!

The GHS Beauty Review serves as a fundraiser for the GHS Annual Staff.  The staff would like to thank everyone who participated in the pageant and also those who attended.  Thanks also to Tassin Jewelers for providing the sparkling crown, Flowers on the Square for the beautiful flowers, and Universal Trophies and Gifts for the amazing trophies.  Thanks also to Mrs. Laura Barfield, Ms. Ann Hart Hames, Ms. Denise Harris, Ms Amber Harrison, Mr. Bernard Hatch, Mrs. Linda Moore, and Mrs. Jenni Winters for their help with pageant production.  As Annual Staff Advisor, I would also like to extend a special thank you to the GHS Annual Staff for their hard work and creativity during this year’s pageant.  The members of the 2012 – 2013 GHS Annual Staff are Brittany Bess, Rachel Braswell, Dainairria Evans, Sarah Kate Griffin, Etta Jennings, Tykirah Lee, Katie Little, Ashley Martin, Beth Moore, Mary Courtney Self, Abby Vance, and Taylor Vance.  &
