GED Graduation at Tie Plant SchoolThe Grenada School District congratulates the recent graduates of the General Education Development (GED) program at Tie Plant School. Students in the program take classes and progress at their own pace through the coursework set forth by the state of Mississippi. When students feel ready to tackle the online, Common Core aligned test, they schedule their individual assessment times. Students test on major subject areas – English, Math, Science, and History. Students may take two exams per day with English and Math, the two longest tests, scheduled on separate days.
Each year, Tie Plant School and GSD coordinate to honor these graduates. This year the ceremony was held on May 8 at the Tie Plant Cafetorium. Graduates adorned in caps and gowns received their certificates from Dr. David Daigneault, Grenada School District Superintendent. Other speakers included Mr. Atavis Campbell, Pastor John Goldwater, Mrs. Gwen D. Woodson, GSD Americorp Program Director; Mr. Charles Washington, GHS Ninth Grade Principal; Mr. Sammie Jackson, Retired Tie Plant School Director; and Dr. Tina Herrington, Tie Plant School Director. After the ceremony, graduates and guests enjoyed refreshments.
The faculty and staff of Tie Plant School work tirelessly with the GED participants each year to aid them in obtaining their GED certificate.
