Ashley Kuhn, a native of Louisville, Mississippi, has been appointed the new Grenada High School football coach for the 2011 – 2012 season. Kuhn brings 13 years of coaching experience to the table at GHS. Most recently, Kuhn served as Head Coach at Ittawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton, Mississippi, where he led the IAHS Indians to the playoffs during his first year. During a two-year tenure at Durant High School, his teams went 25-3, won two Region Championships, and one North State Region Championship. Kuhn’s coaching staff was recognized as Regional Coaching Staff of the Year in 2008 and 2009.
Prior to his success at Durant, Kuhn served as Offensive Coordinator at Lafayette County High School, where his teams made the playoffs both years. As Offensive Coordinator, Kuhn worked closely with West Point High School Head Coach Chris Chambliss from 1998 – 2005, where their successes included a 4A State Championship in 2005 and a North State Championship in 2002. He also served as Head Coach of West Point’s 9th grade team. Chambliss stated,”Grenada has hired a great football coach. Coach Kuhn is a ‘people person’ with a work ethic second to none. His continuous study and great knowledge of the game will be an asset to any program.”
Kuhn, slated to come on board in March 2011, was selected from a field of 40 applicants across the State. GSD Superintendent David Daigneault stated, “We feel that the Grenada Football Program is a gold mine waiting to be discovered. Grenada needs an individual with drive, determination, a good work ethic, and a heart for motivating students. Combine these characters with in-depth knowledge of how to build a successful program, and I think we have a hard to beat combination. We are convinced that Coach Kuhn is the man for the job. We are looking forward to supporting his efforts in building the Grenada Program and joining in the new football initiatives.”
Jerry Williams, Grenada High School Principal said, “I am excited that Coach Kuhn is the new head football coach for Grenada High School. We interviewed many highly qualified candidates for this position and he was the person that we believe will make Grenada a successful program. I look forward to working with him to assure that he has everything needed to win football games.”
Kuhn , who holds Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Mississippi State University, commented, “I am very excited about the opportunity to become part of a team of school administrators that are 100% committed and focused on building a successful football program here in Grenada. I intend to utilize my skills as a teacher, organizer, and leader to direct our program to championship levels with character, honor, and integrity.” Kuhn is married and has two children. They look forward to joining the Grenada community.
