GMS Cheerleaders Prepare for Season
by Rene Branson
The Grenada Middle School Football Cheerleading Squad for the 2011-2012 school year was elected this past April. Since that time, all 15 members have been hard at work performing new cheers, learning how to stunt, and practicing their tumbling and jumping skills.
At the end of May, the squad attended UCA Summer Camp held at Mississippi State University. It was the largest single summer camp that UCA held in the entire southeastern region with over 900 cheerleaders on 52 squads in attendance. During the 3-day camp, cheerleaders learned material to use the following year and on the last day competed with the other squads on their performance of that material. GMS Football Cheer finished 3rd place with their Extreme Routine, a monumental accomplishment at such a large venue.
In addition to cheering, GMS Football Cheerleaders have participated in two community service activities: raising money for St. Jude and volunteering at Grenada’s Farmers' Market.
On Saturday, Sept. 17th, the Cheerleaders are conducting a Mini Cheer Camp at the GMS gymnasium. Any K-5th grader may participate during the 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. camp at a cost of $40. This includes lunch, a one day material refresher on Monday, a t-shirt, and a performance at the GMS vs Cleveland Wildcats home football game on Thursday, October 6th. Please call Rene Branson at 662-417-0908 for information. Sign-up for the camp will be at the door on camp day.
The GMS Cheerleaders will be on the sidelines at all GMS 7th & 8th grade football games. Join us in cheering the Grenada Middle School Chargers to victory!
