Technology Department

Grenada School District’s excellent Technology Department is led by Director of Technology Mike Liberto and Technology Team members, Chris Corbett and Wesley King.  Our Tech Team ensures that all of our District equipment is functioning properly by troubleshooting problems and planning expansion of networks and equipment as growth demands.  Installation of software, wiring, and security camera equipment are also responsibilities of the Technology Team.  The Technology Department also prepares our annual District E-rate, our federally funded technology grant that reimburses a large portion of our internet costs.

To facilitate upcoming statewide online testing, summer upgrades to labs in grades 2-3 and renovation of lab spaces at K-1 and GUES will be implemented.  The renovations will partially consist of the addition of countertops to accommodate the use of existing laptops to optimize test-taking. Appropriate wiring and connections will also be installed.

Faster internet connections for all schools are planned for installation this summer. A 100Mb line will be installed that will be shared by all schools.  Metro E-Circuits will be placed at Central Office. Liberto states, “These upgrades will facilitate faster internet connections and will enable more students to be online simultaneously without degraded service.

The Technology Department oversees over 1,800 computers, 400 printers, over 200 electronic white boards, 25 servers, 25 computer labs, 5 mobile computer carts with 30 laptops per cart, 2 NEO carts (30 devices per cart for Accelerated Reading), security cameras, numerous televisions, projectors, DVRs, and telephone systems.  All requests for service are submitted through an automated Technology HelpDesk.

The Technology Department also maintains and trains teachers and staff on SAM7, our District-wide student database.  SAM7 serves as the support for ActiveParent and the AIM Notification system.  Parental access of ActiveParent enables searches for grades, discipline, and homework for each student in the District .  The AIM system calls parents and guardians when emergency situations warrant parent contact or when a child is absent from school.

The Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, Star Math, and Star Reading programs are also maintained by the Technology Department.  These computer programs, as well as Study Island, Education City, Orchard, and MySkillsTutor, are available to enhance instruction.

Our Technology Department assists in each student’s education by maintaining and consistently upgrading all of the technology equipment. The Tech Team’s work enables our students to upgrade academic skills and use appropriate technology to prepare them for further education and careers.
