GCTC Students Place in District
and State Competitions

Grenada Career & Technical Center Automotive Technology students have been busy this spring participating in different competitions. Two teams participated in the SkillsUSA-VICA Opening and Closing Ceremonies competition at Mississippi Delta Community College in Morehead, MS. The team consisting of Ethan Archer, Jeremy Smart, Dalton Coleman, Karlee Livingston, Cody Lee, Cody Terry, and Lee Smallwood received 2nd place in the District II competition. They advanced to the state competition held at Hinds Community College in Pearl, Mississippi, where they received 3rd place.

The purpose of this competition is to evaluate the contestants’ understanding of the symbolic representation of the colors and assembled parts of the SkillsUSA-VICA emblem and to evaluate teamwork and professional presentation skills. Each team must consist of seven registered members in the roles of president, vice president, parliamentarian, reporter, treasurer, secretary and optional officer. Contestants are judged on the following abilities:
a. Teamwork and coordinated movements of walking, standing and sitting
b. Memorization and recitation in unison
c. Good grooming in dress and personal hygiene

d. Pronunciation of words in a clear an understandable manner
e. Good platform deportment and confident appearance
f. Variances of voice pitch, tone, tempo, and volume

Grenada Career & Technical Center welding students had a three man team to compete in the Skills-USA State Competition at Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi. The team comprised of Justin Williams, Chance Woods, and Hunter George received 3rd place in metal welding fabrication. The team had to read and interpret blueprints and use three different electrodes and three different welding processes to manufacture a swivel chair to a welding code.
Congratulations to all of these students for their achievements at the state level.
